John Palmer, LMSW was born in Coeur d’Alene and raised in the surrounding areas in Idaho’s gorgeous mountains. John obtained his Master of Social Work degree from Boise State University. John brings diverse experiences to our team, including his background working with college students at North Idaho College. As a student success coach within NIC’s (TRIO) Student Support Services program, John developed a passion for helping young adults navigate the unique challenges presented in the college experience. During this time, he researched the benefits of mindfulness practices for reducing stress amongst this population. John also worked with the Kootenai County Mental Health Court program working with individuals who experience co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Although he found this work rewarding, he felt a calling to return to the academic setting. Since joining our team, John utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques in his eclectic approach for reducing stress and anxiety, and processing trauma. He is skilled at assisting students in navigating challenges with substance use and addictive patterns. John continues to pursue unique interventions to help students look at healthy coping and their relationship with technology.
When John is not helping young adults achieve their goals, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters and exploring the beautiful outdoors of north Idaho. He is an avid trail runner, skateboarder, and snowboarder.
